MagicPicker is a colour wheel panel for Photoshop and Illustrator that concept artists and digital painters have used for years. Version 10 is a big one.

What's new

  • **Colour Areas**: mark out a limited range on the wheel for each part of a painting, such as skin, sky or foliage, so your palette stays controlled.
  • **Oklab and OKLCH**: perceptual colour spaces, where equal steps look like equal changes to your eye. Web designers will know OKLCH from CSS.
  • Native Apple Silicon support, so no more Rosetta.
  • Resizable swatches, a heads-up display while you paint, and a warning when a colour falls outside the printable gamut.

Price

It costs $29 and works with Photoshop and Illustrator CS6 or later on Windows and macOS.

Why it matters

Limited palettes are one of the oldest painting tricks for making work feel unified. Building that limit into the picker makes it a habit instead of a rule you have to remember.
