Caddis is a young motion graphics app from developer Mike Gaynor. It lets you work with nodes or with layers, whichever suits the shot. Version 1.1 makes it feel much more grown up.

New in 1.1

  • A particle system with collisions and flocking.
  • Loop, For Each and Switch controls for building procedural setups.
  • Grid layouts using new Layout and Cell nodes.
  • Cryptomatte EXR support and nested compositions.

Our take

Motion design tools are getting interesting again. Between Caddis, Cavalry and Figma's new motion features, After Effects has real competition for procedural, system-driven work. Caddis is worth a weekend if you like building with rules rather than keyframes.
